The Station: Test Drive

Welcome to the Station's Test Drive

Here, you will have the chance to try your character's voice out before apping them into the game. Feel free to play out in whatever means you would like - through the Station's communicators which are video and voice or either one alone, through action tags or prose, or whatever else you wish.

Please note that testing a character here does not guarantee that you have a reservation on that character. You may reserve a character HERE. Also note that this may be used as one of your samples for your application, though the mods may ask for more if what is provided is not considered sufficient. Finally, any thing played out on the test drive will not be considered character canon until after your character has woken up on the Station, as each character is given a unique scenario for their character's waking upon acceptance to the game.

"Starfleet?" That gave him a moment of pause. "Never heard of that organization before. But yeah, I just got here. I was kind of hoping you might be able to tell me a little more about what's going on, but I guess it's just not gonna be that easy."

Suddenly, he seemed to notice her Raktajino. "What're you drinking?"

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-09 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Never heard of Starfleet. O...kay, she could deal with that, although it introduced the real worry that she had just done something to violate the Prime Directive or the Temporal Prime Directive. "I guess not. But we can always team up--two heads are better than one and all of that, right?"

She picked up the mug and gave it a sniff. To her surprise, it seemed about right--a cautious sip proved it, although it wasn't as good as the stuff on DS9. "Raktajino," she said. "It's a kind of coffee." She left off the fact that it was Klingon coffee; if this kid didn't know Starfleet he might not know them either. "I'm Ezri, by the way. Ezri Dax."

[Getting a very robotic vibe from this chick, definitely.]

Not unsafe. I think. Just old and too big for just me and QT... he keeps the power core of the Station running.

So... are you a robot?

"Well. Shit." Gryf wasn't sure what to make of that. Someone just showing up in the mess hall rated pretty high on her weird stuff meter even with all she'd seen in her life so far. "I hope we don't remember when we die, personally. I think I'd rather not know." She laughed as she shook her head, but her eyes were a bit more serious. This was insane.

Maybe she hit her head or something.

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-09 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
If Ezri had been inclined to, she could have told this woman that death could be very, very painful to remember indeed. But she did not feel inclined to, and just nodded instead. "I'm happy with assuming that we're alive and real," she said lightly. "I think the next step should be to introduce ourselves properly, right? I'm Ezri Dax."

Gryf didn't offer her hand; wasn't a part of her culture. It had been so long since she'd met anyone else from her planet that she couldn't remember the last time she gave someone a proper 'greeting'. "Gryf," she said instead, smiling. "Ezri Dax..." she murmured, getting it on her tongue.

She eyed the symbol on the front of Ezri's uniform and gestured towards it vaguely with her chin. "From where you work?"

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-09 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
That was fine. The not-so-hypothetical death discussion had distracted Ezri from the detail of handshaking anyway. "Nice to meet you, Gryf," she said, walking to a more conversational distance.

She put her hand briefly on the combadge. (It didn't work. She'd tried it already.) "Yes, it's to show that I'm from Starfleet. I serve on Deep Space 9." It was a little weird that Gryf didn't recognize the Starfleet insignia, but it would be very hard not to know it if she was anywhere near the Alpha, Beta, or Gamma Quadrants.

Brow up. "Not a name I know, I'm afraid. Deep Space Nine... a ship?" Not a particularly inventive name by any means but anything called Starfleet, what a simple name, might go with simple names for everything.

"Of course," Jr. said, giving her a grin. He stuck out his right hand for a handshake. There was a red-numbered marking on the inside of his palm that read '666', but he made no remark upon it. "Gaignun Kukai, Jr. But you can just call me Jr., if you want; I know it's kind of a mouthful."

He looked curiously at the replicator. "Huh. So this is some kind of coffee machine?"

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-09 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well. That answered that. And by answered, Ezri really meant that it only brought up a host of troubling questions. "Space station," she said, shaking her head. "Um, I'm going to take that to mean I'm not anywhere near the Alpha Quadrant."

She clasped her hands behind her back tightly. "Where exactly is this space station."

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-09 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Nice to meet you, Jr," she said, shaking his hand and returning the smile. She was curious about the 666 tattoo, but she could ask later--the Number of the Beast didn't exactly figure big in Trill society, and she'd heard enough questions about her spots in three hundred years herself.

She turned back to the replicator. "It's sort of an everything machine. You just say what you want, and it'll make it--um, where are you from, Junior?" she added, remembering about the Prime Directives.

S'cuse you?

[He leaned propped, arms crossed over his chest and staring at the being who was currently attempting to jack into HIS baby. She's going to find, that if she's looking for information, things re shutting down, closing or being blocked off.]

[His head tilted, eyes narrowed a bit, but he made no threatening moves. He had a tool belt hooked around his hips, weighed down low to one side. His jump suit was half zipped showing a purple shirt under it. Human looking...]

Can I help you with something?
inductionport: (On alert.)

[ Tali'zorah pushes herself out of the access tube with a squirming wriggle and looks up at Quentin with a quiet exhale of exasperation before she replies, omnitool lit up and a spanner in the other hand. ]

There is a fluctuation in the lights on the crew level. There was nothing wrong with it there, so I thought perhaps it might be an issue with the power distribution down here--I figured it best to start at the source and work up.

[ A pause. Wait. He's probably annoyed that she's poking into the station's guts. ]

I... didn't want to be a bother.

[He crouched down to rest elbows on knees, balanced there on his toes. Tilting his head right, he ran a hand over the back of his neck, on the port there, to mentally make himself stop closing down the system. It's going to take a LOT to be okay with strangers on the station. He doesn't trust most of them.]

You're... trying to fix lights? [Well, now he just sounded amused. She was playing Handyman. Cute.]

It's not a bother. I just don't like finding a pair of legs sticking out of my baby and not know why.
inductionport: (Looking back)

[personal profile] inductionport 2013-01-09 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes.

[ She sounds somewhere between amused and embarrassed by the revelation. ]

They're pretty important for getting around the station in one piece, don't you think? Besides, I wanted to be useful. I hate sitting around on my hands and not doing anything if I think I can help with the problem.

[ She pauses again, then gives an understanding nod. ]

I can understand that. I wouldn't be too happy if someone were to suddenly start burrowing into the Normandy. Sorry--I should have asked first.

"Same here!" said Jr. If he'd noticed her spots (he had), he wasn't asking about them. Because reasons.

"Me? The Kukai Foundation. Although I guess I spend most of my time on the Durandal." He peered over at the replicator. "So it's voice-activated, huh? I'd like a... hmm. Grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup!"

If he'd been hoping to trip up the machine, however, it didn't work. His request appeared just as ordered. "Man, I know they're coming up with new applications for transport technology all the time, but I've never heard of a prototype that can cook for you."
cutie_mechanic: (Side eyes)

[personal profile] cutie_mechanic 2013-01-09 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[He gave her a once over look, then a small nod, settling in near by, still at the ready, in case he needed to, well, who knows, take her out? But also to be of some help.]

It does make it easier. I've gotten used to dealing with the dark, but I suppose it's safer, in the end.

[useful, huh? At least she was polite.] You're a mechanic? On your Normandy, I mean. You keep it running?
inductionport: (Headtilt.)

[personal profile] inductionport 2013-01-09 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ She shrugs and leans against the bulkhead behind her as she continues to chat with the man, one hand rubbing self-consciously along her opposite bicep. ]

A mechanic? I guess so. Engineers is more the term I'd use, though. I don't just do mechanical systems, but also computers and programming. I help keep the Normandy running smoothly, when I'm aboard. I have other duties elsewhere, too.
cutie_mechanic: (Smile!)

[personal profile] cutie_mechanic 2013-01-09 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
[that actually got a smile out of him. Smiles looked more at place on his face then not.]

Then I look forward to having you on board the station. Keeping her going can be a chore. I guess with more people showing up I need to actually look into fixing the real problems instead of working around them.

[personal profile] inductionport 2013-01-09 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Tali actually laughs, crossing her arms and half buckling in amusement. ]

Oh, Keelah! I know all about working around problems. Some of the ships in the Flotilla are held together with prayers and engine tape half the time, it seems like.

[He gave a small tip of his head as if to indicate everything behind him... and beyond, really.]

I swear this entire bucket is held together with prayers, hope, tape and a lot of cussing. You fix one thing and something eats through another. We've got a space rat infestation on another floor, so... [a shrug. Space Rats are clearly the bane of his life while trying to keep this tub secure.]
inductionport: (Red wall.)

[personal profile] inductionport 2013-01-09 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Space rats? Those don't sound very nice.

[ She cocks her head to one side, then adds in a helpful tone: ]

I have a shotgun.

Correct. My designation is KOS-MOS.

This Station appears to require a skeleton crew greater than two. Were there originally more crew?

[How her fingers itch to check out such a life like robot! She wonders briefly if she could jack into a robot like this..]

Um. [Pulled out of her thoughts.] Originally there were thousands on board. Two is all the Station's got left.

"I'm going to go out on a limb and say... no, no you're not," Gryf responded to her comment first about the Alpha Quadrant, there was that simple naming convention again, before the latter question made her laugh.

"Isn't that the question? The simplest answer is 'floating above the planet Bothaious on the Station' and the worst one is 'we have no idea'. Nothing around here is familiar."
