The Station: Test Drive

Welcome to the Station's Test Drive

Here, you will have the chance to try your character's voice out before apping them into the game. Feel free to play out in whatever means you would like - through the Station's communicators which are video and voice or either one alone, through action tags or prose, or whatever else you wish.

Please note that testing a character here does not guarantee that you have a reservation on that character. You may reserve a character HERE. Also note that this may be used as one of your samples for your application, though the mods may ask for more if what is provided is not considered sufficient. Finally, any thing played out on the test drive will not be considered character canon until after your character has woken up on the Station, as each character is given a unique scenario for their character's waking upon acceptance to the game.

For a moment, Jack doesn't even understand the question. "Hunh. Oh. Well, local time is 3563, so, if you do exist in this timeline, unfortunately, you're probably not still around." He shrugs. "Sorry."

"But that brings up a way more interesting question." Jack pauses for a second, and looks at Steve seriously. "Let me guess, you just came from the Battle of New York?" Because if the answer is no, then things get interesting.

Could this be a prose writing sample?

[personal profile] waypastasking 2014-05-14 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Steve would have been concerned if he had not been pulled out of a fixed point in time already. It would really be kind of funny actually if he were to really think about it.

The kind of thing Tony might enjoy actually.

"Yes Sir," Steve replied. "Otherwise how would I have known Doctor Banner?"
theendiswherewestartfrom: (JackSuspicious)

I used my test drive thread as one sample, and then did a paragraph pretend post for my prose sample

[personal profile] theendiswherewestartfrom 2014-05-14 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack doesn't know about Steve's 'slow boat' method of time travel, but oh, would that be an interesting topic for discussion. For now, though, he needs some clarification. "I mean, was that the last thing you remember before coming here? Bruce, Stark, Darcy, even Helmet Boy," Jack's pet name for Loki, "they all seem to be coming from within the same 48-hour time span, surrounding that battle. Which, in the grand scheme of things, is pretty ridiculous."
waypastasking: (Cap Shield)

We only need the Action and the prose right?

[personal profile] waypastasking 2014-05-15 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Steve needed a moment to think because all of his thoughts were kind of jumbled together at the moment. The details of what happened to him were kind of hazy, so he closed his eyes trying to remember.

"Tony had just fallen back through the portal.... I think..... Or maybe we were eating schwarma? The details are a little fuzzzy.... is this normal?"
theendiswherewestartfrom: (JackBrooding)

Yeah, that'll settle you.

[personal profile] theendiswherewestartfrom 2014-05-15 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Jack nods. Maybe things were so much clearer for him because he'd done this time travel thing before. "Oh good. I'll have to get the details another time, I still haven't gotten the full story of what happened in New York, but that puts you in the same time frame."

"We're trying to find out patterns like that, any similarities, but I guess that's mostly Bruce's job."
waypastasking: (Default)

Kay..... I have the personality, and the prose to do then

[personal profile] waypastasking 2014-05-15 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Dr. Banner didn't tell you?" Steve paused to look at Jack again. "I am guessing that the Big Guy also made the trip?" Steve asked. He was fairly certain that jumping dimensions wouldn't have gotten rid of the Hulk.

Steve looked around. "Well, what can I do to help?"
theendiswherewestartfrom: (JackDetermined)

[personal profile] theendiswherewestartfrom 2014-05-15 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Jack tries to keep his tone casual. "I've gathered enough to know that Bruce doesn't want to talk about it and," nods towards the Captain, "that he wouldn't exactly be the most reliable narrator of events."

And then Jack gets that protective look on his face, and pitches his voice down. "Yes, the Other Guy is along for the ride, but very few people on board know he exists, even fewer have figured out that he and Bruce share headspace. And I've worked really. hard. to make sure that it stays that way. So far as most people on board know, he's just a really hard-working doctor. He deserves a chane to be treated like everybody else."
waypastasking: (Default)

[personal profile] waypastasking 2014-05-15 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Steve stopped at the tone in his voice, looking at him strangely for a moment. He respected Jack's willingness to protect his friend. He was also willing to do the same.

"I don't suppose you have read anything about me?" He asked, just as softly. "If you had, you should know that I have no intention of causing him problems. I get what it is like to be treated differently, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, so don't worry, my lips are sealed."
theendiswherewestartfrom: (JackSmirk)

[personal profile] theendiswherewestartfrom 2014-05-15 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Jack slowly nods again. "Good. Because, he's got it under control. He's not actually a threat to people on board. And I've had to convince a few people of that fact. Himself included," that last part muttered a little.

But then he shoots Cap a half-smile. "Bruce was a little dodgey about anything from back home, and Stark...well, Stark didn't like me. So I have to admit, I don't know. What bits and pieces I've heard about SHIELD, pseudo-military organization, slash super-hero group?" Jack's eyebrow raises. "I've got to hear the details."
waypastasking: (Default)

[personal profile] waypastasking 2014-05-15 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
"I never saw him as a threat sir," Steve assured him quickly and quietly. "He was a world renown scientist, long before I met him, and I respected him for it."

"He never wanted to fight in the first place, and I respect that," Steve said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"So you want me to tell you about the Avengers?"
theendiswherewestartfrom: (JackSmile)

[personal profile] theendiswherewestartfrom 2014-05-15 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
That really does sound like Bruce. Okay, maybe this guy does have him figured, then.

"Ye-ah, that was the other term Bruce had thrown around," Jack brightens up a little. "So, SHIELD, and the Avengers, they're different things? But you were both working to stop Loki? I did get at least that part of the story."
waypastasking: (Default)

[personal profile] waypastasking 2014-05-16 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Steve nodded his head. "The Avengers initiative is under the Umbrella of SHIELD, which has a really long name, but SHIELD is easier," Cap replied with a smile.

He adjusted his shield slightly in his hand. "Is there a reason that Bruce never explained this?"
theendiswherewestartfrom: (JackSmile)

[personal profile] theendiswherewestartfrom 2014-05-16 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I can tell it's a sensitive subject with him, anything even tangentially related to the Other Guy is. So, if he shares details freely, then I'll be there to listen. But I dont push for details. We're all holding a secret or two we wouldn't want others prying into."

Jack waves a hand dismissively. "Besides, he's got so many other fascinating things to talk about. Theories about this area of space, and metaphysics. I've traveled time before, and he's got me re-thinking everything I know about causality, paradoxes," Jack smirks, "even why I picked up the time travel gig in the first place."
waypastasking: (Default)

[personal profile] waypastasking 2014-05-21 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Steve looked at Jack curiously for a moment. He wasn't exactly sure what the man meant by Time travel, but he bit back his question for now.

"I am an open book, so I don't think that applies to me, but I do understand the need to keep somethings quiet," Steve stated. "I would never break Dr. Banner's confidence or trust like that. If you don't believe another thing about me, believe that," He finished earnestly, looking around.

His curiosity got the better of him, and he asked. "You time travel?"

Docking Bay - Fueling/Supply Area | Jack

[personal profile] jackienaught 2014-05-24 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Waking up alone on the Normandy and finding nothing in her quick search was unnerving. There was no Collectors, no slavers, no sign of someone to tear apart for the disappearance of the rest of the crew. Lack of a target had done nothing but aggrivate her already bad temper and made her skin itch.

Thinking better of saying aboard the vessel, Jack kept to the shadows of the ships in the docking bay. No one payed enough damn attention to anything besides their own ships so it was easy enough to slip into the first area she found.

Her nose told her that there was fuel in this place, though she hasn't come across anything besides what looked like panels for something. She didn't really give a shit about the rest of what was here - hiding out with fuel probably meant that people were less likely to dick around and find her, not to mention the added bonus of being able to torch the place if some asshole got a dumb idea.

Life on the Station had settled into routine. Mordin spent most of his time in the medical lab with a little time set aside for meals and maybe retiring to his cabin to sleep. He went on the occasional away mission, but as back home he found more solace in running tests than socializing or poking at the mysteries here.

But there are some mysteries that even the very model of a scientist Salarian couldn't let go. The Normandy had been docked in the Station briefly and then had vanished. Now that it was back, the reasonable assumption was that a fellow crewmate was there.

Even so, he wasn't going to take chances either. He crept quietly through the docking bay, omnitool in sleep mode and gripping his heavy pistol as he approached the familiar ship.

Cautious footsteps grabbed Jack's attention, making her pause in her assessment of the area.

"Shit."

Hissing the swear under her breath, she changed course quickly. Stealth wasn't really her game, but she was good enough at ambushing to backtrack around the ship. Behind her soon-to-be dead assailant, she stayed in the shadow of the vessel.

"Move and you're dead, fucker!" She called from her hiding spot.

Familiar warmth ran over her skin as she primed her biotics, aura flaring blue and dull pleasure making her smirk.

/flips a coin, you get Jack.

[personal profile] theendiswherewestartfrom 2014-05-26 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
This was a new one. Since they had set up the shift alerts, to let people know when some new person or effect was coming on board the Station, they hadn't gotten another ship. So when the alert seems to be originating from the docking bay, Jack heads in that direction.

It might not help matters that the first person to come along is wearing what is clearly a military coat, rank insignia visible on the shoulders. Captain Jack Harkness misses that someone might be in the docking bay, in favor of staring at the ship that he knows wasn't there earlier. And yet, it's- familiar. Where has he seen this one before? He is completely distracted by the ship, not paying immediate attention to his surroundings.

Hearing the footsteps, Jack let's loose a biotic pulse, hard enough by her estimation to take a pursuer off their feet. It wings by the man staring at the Normandy and she pushes her biotic amp again, aura flaring blue again. She figured if she had to follow Shep's 'suggestion' to use warning shots, the second could afford to be actually be dangerous.

"Who do you work for?" She barks, eyes flicking over his uniform.

"...Captain."

Jack gets completely pulled out of his thoughts by the rush of energy past him. His startled reaction almost knocks himself off his feet, and he automatically grips for a gun that isn't there. Whose idea was it to keep people from walking around armed, again? Oh, right, Jack's.

He turns to face the woman, and his eyes go wide at the sheer power radiating off her form, literally. His hands very slowly go up, he knows when someone has gotten the drop on him this badly. And that was definitely a warning shot. "Work? No one. Kind of retired at the moment."

He wishes he could get to his comm, get a message out to Gryf. But, if his hand goes anywhere near a pocket, she will definitely- shoot? Do something bad to him, whatever it is he's looking at. He'll let her ask the questions, it might be a bad idea to let her know she's been pulled out of her home timeline when she's this angry.

The captain she questioned looked awed by her and she figures he's never seen a biotic in his life. She can't help the smirk that she gives him while his mind clearly scrambles for answers.

Jack narrows her eyes when the man goes for his gun and grinds her teeth hard to keep from killing him. Focusing on the fact that she has him on the ropes does little for her bloodlust and she figures she's got one more question before she can do what she was made for.

His hands go up slowly and her smirk turns into a smile, feral and full of teeth. She appraises him for a moment, walking a small half circle. His lack of armor is a little surprising, so she guesses this his home ship.

"You know, retired or not, you can get fucked up without a way to defend yourself, Cap."

She shrugs a little, clearly enjoying the taunt. With her shaved head and plethora of tattoos, she wondered faintly what he thought of her.

I hope he's afraid.

"You look like you've got something to say. Don't fuck it up."

Intimidated, definitely. Afraid, not exactly. More afraid of what would happen if this woman did hurt him, and that thought gets Jack to take this even more seriously.

"There's no threat here, and no need for that," nods towards her hands. "None of us, nobody on board are prisoners, but I don't have the best answers for how you got here."

"I'm not armed, but you should really stand down before somebody else sees and gets the wrong idea." Jack isn't worried about himself getting hurt, but he's just waiting for Gryf to notice and the Station defenses to spring to life, and then, things will get seriously bad.

On reflex, Jack disappates the power coursing over her skin. She blinks a few times, recognizing the look in the captain's eyes. The concern, the conviction, the sense of bigger fish to fry - it all reminds her of Shepard. Parallels her mind draws make her skin feel tight and for the briefest of moments sheer terror sits icy in her chest.

Her hands go to her head and for a moment a tremor runs through her body. She shakes her head as she processes what is happening around her before her 'training' begins to flood to the surface.

When she looks at him again, eyes hateful and snarling the captain realizes he is dealing with a whole new animal. Stalking up to him, she holds fast to the similarity to Shep she saw in his eyes.

Maybe I won't kill him before I get an answer.

"Who the hell are you and why the FUCK shouldn't I torch this pisshole?!"

Every so often, cooler heads do prevail. Sort of. Jack doesn't know what he is looking at here, but he also doesn't doubt that she could flare that power right back up to life and kill him in an instant. At least now, they aren't in a standoff that would look really bad over the cameras. So he keeps his voice even, still isn't making any sudden movements.

"My name is Captain Jack Harkness. Ex-military rank, I'm not actually in charge here. And I'd recommend not torching the place because we are very far away from wherever you last were, and we're not sure how to get back yet."

Being open and straight-up about the situation, because even if she doesn't like his answers, she will like it less if he lies or holds anything back. He points to the Normandy without taking his eyes off her. "Did you appear on that ship?"

Nodding, more to assure herself than anything, she begins to pace. Jack fixes her gaze to him as she moves and thinks on the enormity of the situation. She pauses in her movement and gives Harkness another once over. When he asks about the Normandy she scoffs, smiling ruefully at the ground for a moment.

Looking up, she cants her head to towards the ship in affirmation.

"Jack. One of Shepard's fuckin' strays."
