The Station: Test Drive

Welcome to the Station's Test Drive

Here, you will have the chance to try your character's voice out before apping them into the game. Feel free to play out in whatever means you would like - through the Station's communicators which are video and voice or either one alone, through action tags or prose, or whatever else you wish.

Please note that testing a character here does not guarantee that you have a reservation on that character. You may reserve a character HERE. Also note that this may be used as one of your samples for your application, though the mods may ask for more if what is provided is not considered sufficient. Finally, any thing played out on the test drive will not be considered character canon until after your character has woken up on the Station, as each character is given a unique scenario for their character's waking upon acceptance to the game.

Supplies Room

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-03 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
[There appears to be a robot in your supplies room, Station. KOS-MOS is making her way through with her slow, steady stride, pausing occasionally to scan the boxes.]

Sensory readings inconsistent. Interference scrub failed. Retry failed. Container content readings may be subject to error. Estimated error rate ten percent.

This error rate is not sufficient to explain the state of the storage area. Suboptimal organization results in a loss of efficiency.

[Logicbot disapproves, strongly enough that the sentiment - if you can call it that - penetrates her normally calm, unruffled voice.]

What the...

[Something woke her out of a dead sleep, enough that it takes her a minute to come to her senses. Eventually it comes together in her mind that the Station is not so subtly putting up a camera feed directly in front of her eyes, making her blearily focus on it.

It occurs to her that no, that isn't QT walking through the supplies warehouse. Instead, there's someone she's never seen before with blue hair.

SOMEONE ELSE?

Gryf is out of bed in a second, pulling on clothing until she's some semblance of dressed before racing out of her quarters. Already she is pulling together the Station's internal defenses but at the same time, curious and excited and worried. How did someone get on board without the Station announcing it?!]

[Systems are activating; KOS-MOS' sensors detect the spike in energy readings. And someone's approach; human, or humanoid. She turns toward the approach and waits calmly. A resident of the station? Good. She requires information.]
supplies_bitch: (oh shit surprised)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-05 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gryf skids right into the main part of the warehouse, following the stranger's movements with an overlay that sat upon the world. Someone else is in the Station!]

QT! QT WAKE UP. SOMEONE IS ON BOARD.

[The digital communication goes straight to her partner as she comes out to where KOS-MOS is and just stops dead. ....A woman with blue hair wearing some kind of half-there armor. Holy. Shit.]

....Um... Hello?

[Not her best opening, not by far. But honestly? She's in shock. Five years since she had come to the Station and two since there had been anyone but herself and QT. Now this.]

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-05 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, it's half-there. Her original designer was a horny young man. Don't ask.]

[She regards Gryf thoughtfully. Those sure are some bright red eyes.]

Greetings. You are a resident of this station?
supplies_bitch: (neutral unsure)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-05 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her mind just immediately puts this girl in 'alien' category'.]

I'm part of its crew, I guess you could say. ...Who are you? How'd you get here? How come the Station didn't pick anything up?

[The Station has almost no idea what this alien is. Gryf nudges its scanners further, trying to get something more.]

My designation is KOS-MOS.

[Not. Human. That's what she is. And if the station's sensors are fine enough to pick it up, there's a hell of a lot of warped space around her.]

As for the functionality of this station's sensors, I am unable to answer as to their capabilities. I do not have a record either in my own memory or my vessel's of my arrival here.

[And she pauses a minute, seeming to contemplate Gryf.]

You are unaccustomed to arrivals.
supplies_bitch: (hands over face)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-06 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[KOS-MOS, almost cosmos. It nearly sounded like a user name from her homeworld more than a normal name. Gryf's eyes narrow. Alien? Robot? It hasn't tried to kill her yet at least.]

Considering there's been exactly one ship since I've been here, I'll say no. You have a vessel? A ship?

[That is a reason to get her hopes up. A little.]

welcome to the land of ridiculous acronyms, population Kossy

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-06 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I arrived in the ES Dinah. It is a specialized AGWS capable of transporting two individuals.

What is your name?
supplies_bitch: (smile - bright)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-06 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[So this ... person does have a ship! Gryf starts pinging QT faster unconsciously, a smile coming to her lips.]

Gryf. It's nice to meet you - hell, anyone after all this time.
anti_gnosis: (Talking / Gentle)

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-06 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It is good to meet you as well, Gryf.

[Those words are definitely programmed. Politeness module is active!]

[She'd also ask about Shion, but Gryf's words have already answered her question -- and even if she hadn't, KOS-MOS would know if Shion were close.]

How long have you been on this station?
supplies_bitch: (sly look away)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-06 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Plus Gryf would have just stared at her in confusion.]

Little over five years. I still don't understand how you got here, but... well. [She rubs her neck, thinking it over.] Least I can do is offer you use of the Station. Might not look like much but he's packing.

[Smirk.]
anti_gnosis: (Looking Aside / Sad)

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-06 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Processing, processing...]

Packing?

[Social programming suggests potential meanings of the last two words, offering a probability score to the concept that Gryf is personifying the station as male, or that the station may have a central AI with a male-programmed identity. But the results for the term 'packing' within the context are inconclusive.]
supplies_bitch: (you are an idiot)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-06 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
...I guess not everyone's going to get that joke.

[Another smirk, and she gestured with her head.] Come on, let's get out of the warehouse.

[And she'd work on making sure anywhere this visitor isn't allowed to go she won't get into.]

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-07 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ezri had checked out the little communication device. It was strange--like a tiny little PADD with dozens of functions. She could go all Torias on the thing, of course, but it could wait. She would probably do better to explore this place on foot, see the lay of the station. See if there was anyone else here!

She found the mess hall first, which she considered to be a lucky find. Food, that was crucial... if she could trust these replicators. Without meeting anyone on this station, it was probably a good idea to be a little suspicious.

But she could at least test to see if they functioned. "Okay... let's see. Raktajino," she said with a nod. Hard to go wrong with Klingon coffee.
supplies_bitch: (oh shit surprised)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-07 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
What surprised Gryf, more than a touch, was suddenly being told that someone unknown was on board.

She looked up from her work, bent over a station and trying to get a bit of loose wiring, and actually just stood there for a moment before asking the Station to repeat himself. She must have misheard.

But... no. The Station repeated himself to her with those same words ringing in the back of her skull and her eyes went wide. Someone else was on board.

Ezri would get the rather comical action of Gryf literally sliding into view at the end of the mess hall and looking down into it with her lips parted, eyes wide.

[Yes, jokes are not always something KOS-MOS' programming can interpret. Humor depends on several subtle factors that even the most sophisticated AI can have trouble with. As can humans, for that matter.]

[She nods, accepting the proposal.]

I have not yet investigated this station fully. There are common areas for general use?

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-08 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ezri spun quickly at the sound of the slide. Minute as it was, it was audible to someone diligently listening for signs of any other life. She relaxed when she saw it was a surprised-looking humanoid, and then chided herself for relaxing because that wasn't a good reason to assume anything.

"Hello there," she said, caution leaking through her attempt at friendliness. She didn't move from the replicator either, not wanting to provoke any kind of reaction. "Are you part of the crew here?"
supplies_bitch: (dubious face is dubious)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-08 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Um." For a second, she didn't even know how to answer. Someone else was here! "Yes. Yes I am. And you're not." Ezri was pointed at as Gryf's expression turned unsure.

"Exactly how are you here is the magic question right now. There was nothing on the sensors, nothing at all. That doesn't happen."

Pause. Frown. Scowl. "You're not a ghost or a hallucination, are you? I think you're required to tell me if you are."
supplies_bitch: (looking off side)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-08 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
There are a couple that are probably still safe to go to. There's lounges - I guess I'll find a room close to one? There's the mess hall. At least that one I can testify is still safe. We've found some other rooms across the Station but most of them haven't been used in so long it seems pointless. I found the remains of a pool in one huge room - a real pool! - but it was empty and the bottom coated in this black stuff and I wasn't going to waste our fresh water supply on that.

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-08 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ezri had to grin at that and spread her hands with a shrug. "If I knew how I got here, I'd explain it," she said. "But I suppose it's not too surprising that you don't know either. It probably has something to do with subspace."

Really, there were a number of possible explanations. Subspace, tachyons, a bizarre change in the timeline, or maybe something that nobody even knew existed yet. "And I'm definitely real. I doubt anyone could hallucinate me and I'd--" The rest of her mind slammed into the end of that sentence. Right... but it was too late not to finish it. "--remember if I died."

If the station is experiencing unstable or unsafe conditions, I may be able to assist.

[Her motivational suite has determined that protecting the beings inboard the station is the best fulfillment of her programmed priorities currently available to her.]

Please describe the nature of the conditions.

"Hey!" The greeting came from what looked like a twelve-year-old boy with bright red hair. Two antique Makarov pistols were holstered at his sides, half-covered by a long black-and-gold coat.

"Man, am I glad to see someone else around here!" He looked around the mess hall, as if noticing it for the first time. "Are you one of the residents here?"

Keelah--!

[ The rest of Tali'zorah's outburst is muffled as she jams herself half into an access port in the power core. She's struggling to make sense of strange power couplings and odd bits of equipment that are quite different from what she's used to. But then again, being a quarian comes with having to make do with what you have and learning new layouts and parts everytime a new ship joins the Flotilla. She's busily running a power diagnostic--trying to find where the heck the line that feeds one of the crew lounges goes, since something is making the lights flicker in there and no one else seems willing to take care of the problem. ]

"Hey!" Ezri said automatically as she spun to face the young voice. A boy, but she could see that he was armed and wished for a moment that she had a phaser herself. Not in this situation, of course, but it was a reminder that she didn't have much means of defending herself unless someone cared to fight hand-to-hand.

"I'm actually with Starfleet, but I'm not here in any... official way," she said. "Or unofficial." She tilted her head slightly to study him. "You're a new arrival too, huh?"
