The Station: Test Drive

Welcome to the Station's Test Drive

Here, you will have the chance to try your character's voice out before apping them into the game. Feel free to play out in whatever means you would like - through the Station's communicators which are video and voice or either one alone, through action tags or prose, or whatever else you wish.

Please note that testing a character here does not guarantee that you have a reservation on that character. You may reserve a character HERE. Also note that this may be used as one of your samples for your application, though the mods may ask for more if what is provided is not considered sufficient. Finally, any thing played out on the test drive will not be considered character canon until after your character has woken up on the Station, as each character is given a unique scenario for their character's waking upon acceptance to the game.

[Wide-field sensors are a handy, handy thing.]

Elaborate resources are not relevant when basic ones are insufficient. Your Station is not in good repair.

"...y'know, Rush, this is the second time I've wound up on a weird space station without an obvious reason, but it's the first time you've been here with me."

The voice comes from a short boy in blue armor, with a red robot dog at his side. They're walking down a corridor, and the boy is staring out the windows as they go. His expression is fairly serious, though, and one of his arms converts into a cannon configuration. Rush makes a curious noise at the change. "Well, last time I got attacked by a weird green robot - so I'm not gonna take any chances this time."

"Alright. I guess we don't really have any other choice. Let's find this person."

Even without her full functions, KOS-MOS most likely had a better idea of how to navigate to their destination, so Shion would follow her lead for now.

"I wonder though... Could there have been some residual damage from Fifth Jerusalem?" She hadn't really gotten a chance to check after the start up. "If we don't find any cause for the interference here, remind me to run some scans later, okay KOS-MOS?"

"Affirmative." There was a pause, and then KOS-MOS added, "I do not believe the problem originated with the damage I sustained on Fifth Jerusalem, Shion." Although it was absolutely reasonable speculation, there was just... something that said otherwise.

Irrational. Her programming spun off a subroutine to identify the source of that idea, unable to determine which process spawned it. Odd. Disturbing. Had she sustained damage her internal diagnostics were unable to pinpoint? "However, I believe an extra maintenance session would be advisable." If she could not locate it, surely her creator could.

She gave a nod as she looked over at the android, concerned. She really hoped they would find an external source of interference. Sure, there was a lot she could do with a connection gear, but not having access to Vector's equipment, or at least what the Kukai Foundation could provide, would be something of a setback. And their current surroundings were starting to seem a little dated, by her standards.

Dustin may not have been the smartest Power Ranger around but even he knew when something went weird. Case in point: waking up in his ninja gear aboard the cockpit of his giant robot lion Zord was definitely a new experience for him. Hastily, he jumped out of said vehicle and looked around hoping to find some people.

"Hey! How the hell do you find your way around this place!?"

Kittan is shouting over the communicator as he walks through the station. He's angry and yelling always helps back home, so why not here? The station itself makes no sense to him, as does just about anything that does not respond to willpower and loud noises.

"Has anyone seen the King Kittan?"

For those that might have encountered it, it's the large yellow mech that looks like a banana with a face.

Medical Bay

[personal profile] pitchforkdoctor 2013-01-16 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Being transplanted to another part of the galaxy, even if against his will, was no reason for Mordin to set aside his usual assortment of side projects. He'd rather be continuing his secret work on Sur'kesh, or even be back on board the Normandy, though he'd never say so if asked by anyone other than Shepard.

He moved around the medical bay, observing reactions in different sample pods and then quickly moving back to the computers to input new commands and record the readings. Anyone walking in would also note his humming some Gilbert and Sullivan song under his breath as he worked.]

[Scowlface.] He's not in the best repair, no. That's what happens when there's two people instead of several thousand trying to take care of it.

[Jack seems to have coped well with the abrupt change in time and place, and so, he's made it his own personal mission to keep up morale around the Station, by his usual methods. With this goal in mind, he has wandered into the Medical Bay. He catches the tune Mordin is humming, and smirks playfully.]

"H.M.S. Pinafore? You know, the second London revival had the most talented Sir Joseph Porter I've ever seen on stage. And backstage, too, for that matter."

[Mordin looks up at Jack, though his eyes and fingers keep drifting back to the console, making sure his experiment proceeds properly. Still it's in the middle of processing potential vectors, so he can allow the distraction.]

"Ah, Captain Harkness. Have good ear. Became familiar with human theater sometime back. Music helps concentration. Prefer the patter songs."

He inhales sharply.

"How can I help?"

"Well, I've got questions."

[Jack pauses just a little too long.]

"I've been trying to get to know all the people on the Station. I like to know who I'm working with. And, some of you guys, I don't even know how to approach."

[Jack gestures to Mordin.]

"Take you, for example. I've been around, and I've never encountered someone of your species before. New situations like this, there's always a question of inter-species cultural compatability."

[At least, that's what Jack thinks they called it back in Time Agency training. Sociological Theory wasn't his favorite class.]

[Mordin shrugs a bit as he idly continues his work. He has however noticed Jack's flirting with the rest of the people aboard the station, and he quirks an eyebrow at the human at the way he phrased things.]

Not much to tell. Salarian. From Sur'Kesh, Annos Basin, Milky Way. Former Special Tasks Group." He inhales sharply, "Assisted Commander Shepard against Collectors and Reapers. Satisfying work."

[His eyebrow quirks again.]

"Noticed your interaction with rest of crew. Different species react to stress in own way. Sexual activity normal stress release for humans. However, not personally interested."

[Well, that wasn't precisely what Jack had in mind for this conversation, but hey, while we're on the subject! Jack shifts gears seamlessly, and the flirtatious grin appears on his face.]

"Well, too bad for that. Although, it's not just humans who use it for 'normal stress release.' You'd be surprised." Jack laughs. "Now, don't get me wrong, 'stress release' is fun, but there's so much more you get out of it."

[Mordin's expression remains serious, but then it rarely does change, especially when discussing medical matters.]

"Well aware. Ran clinic in slum. Given talks in many cross species pairings. Advice. Medicines. Position instructions. HSSSSS. Do not mind what is done as long as it is done safely. Feel free to come to me if there is a need.

Suppose other point is true. Prefer examining cell cultures. Less alcohol required. Mood music."

[While his face doesn't give much away, his tone shows he is enjoying the conversation.]

[And all at once, the doctor has become one of Jack's favorite people.]

"See! Live and let live, so many people in the last century I was in for a while just didn't get that. But I guess that's all in the past now..."

[Oops. You made yourself sad again, Jack. He trails off, and stares into a middle distance for a moment, before he pastes a smile back on his face, but this one is much less genuine.]

"Mood music? Did we just wrap the conversation back around to Gilbert and Sullivan? Can never go wrong with the classics."

[Jack briefly pauses to see if his attempt at distraction is working.]

And yet you have endeavored to survive for some time. That is not an inconsiderable accomplishment.

Should I be unable to leave this location, I may be able to offer assistance.

[Because her first priority is to get herself and Shion home, naturally, but given that she can't connect to the UMN here, the likelihood of that happening is... severely lessened.]

Have a pretty blue robot instead of a weird green one?

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-19 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Another new arrival; KOS-MOS catches the transition as she comes to the corridor. Well now; she isn't the only one with that capability now.

"Greetings." Bright red eyes regard him with something like curiosity.

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-19 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Shion wasn't the only one, either. KOS-MOS was aware of exactly what they did and did not have that would do her maintenance. If the issue were an internal one, the likelihood that Shion would be able to repair her with only the connection gear was... low.

"The medical bay appears to be largely unused," she said instead, selecting a different topic. There was little that could be said regarding her maintenance at this point. "We should move onward."

If you didn't come in a working vehicle.. I'm afraid there isn't a way out of here. There's no working ships on board. We could use the help, so, thanks?

[Not entirely sure how to handle the compliment. Is 'trying to survive' a thing worth complimenting?]

You misunderstand. This region of space does not appear to contain any of the UMN transfer points needed for me to return to the places I must go.

Whether or not I can leave the Station itself appears immaterial.
supplies_bitch: (dubious face is dubious)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-20 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[...What?]

What by Earth is a UMN transfer point?

[Maybe some kind of transporter? But as far as she knew no transporter she knew of was safe for a Human, but then again KOS-MOS was a robot...]

[Mordin nods, the briefest of smiles on his face.]

Classics yes. Too much techno beat in modern music. Still creative but no soul. Emotion, but roughly expressed. Stage music tells story in small scale.

[Mordin gives something of an impression of an old man, as youthful as he looks.]

"Modern, now that's a funny word around time travelers." Jack laughs. "I guess we're all time travelers now, aren't we? I already was, sort of."

[Jack fiddles with the burnt-out manipulator on his left wrist, then looks up with a slightly guilty expression on his face.]

"I really should be asking everybody this. So, when is home for you, what time period?"

[Mordin takes a moment to run the years, knowing the Salarian measurement but having to recall the human version.]

"2185 Common Era. By the Human. Your people made first contact 37 years ago. Just received seat on Council. HSSSS. Very fast. Very auspicious."

[His face drops a bit.]

"Reaper invasion imminent."
