The Station: Test Drive

Welcome to the Station's Test Drive

Here, you will have the chance to try your character's voice out before apping them into the game. Feel free to play out in whatever means you would like - through the Station's communicators which are video and voice or either one alone, through action tags or prose, or whatever else you wish.

Please note that testing a character here does not guarantee that you have a reservation on that character. You may reserve a character HERE. Also note that this may be used as one of your samples for your application, though the mods may ask for more if what is provided is not considered sufficient. Finally, any thing played out on the test drive will not be considered character canon until after your character has woken up on the Station, as each character is given a unique scenario for their character's waking upon acceptance to the game.

[People have done it; you might be in for a wild trip if you try.]

And the rest?

[Departure, calamity?]

[She might. When she thinks she has a chance.]

Don't know. Seems they got on a ship and left. Then the sensors, the logs, the everything on the ship went blank for over a a year before the Station just sort of... came back to life when we came.

Ezri stepped back as Jr. tested out the replicator, biting her lip before the decided that there were bigger things to worry about right now than the Prime Directive (only the most important principle in Starfleet which she'd had hammered into her head three times now). Anyway, if he was on a space station it had been broken already.

Still, it was somewhat of a relief to hear him mention the words transporter technology. "Yeah, it's actually really common where I'm from, more common than actual cooking. Way better than the old food synthesizers they used to have." Which was actually Curzon's memory, but you never forgot the polymerized taste of those primary-color food blocks.

And the means of your arrival?

[The easy answer is that it is likely the same as her own; however, she disapproves of assumptions when the information is available.]

[personal profile] sayonara_baby 2013-01-10 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Jr. made a face. "'Food synthesizer' doesn't exactly sound very appetizing." He set down his tray and took a bite of the sandwich. "This isn't too bad. But you know, there's nothing like actually making the food that you eat. Manufactured stuff never tastes the same."

He gave her a searching look. "By the way, is something wrong? You look kinda worried." Granted, there were plenty of things here to be worried about here, but it was almost like that lip-biting thing was directed at him. And that didn't feel too great.

Starfleet: all about creative naming! Even though it's not like humans had named their home planets "Sol 1" or "Terra Prime."

And speaking of planet names, Bothaious was definitely a new one to Ezri. So either she was in the Delta Quadrant or a different galaxy entirely... it had to be the former, right? This woman was definitely humanoid, and so were most sentient species in the Milky Way. "Okay... so what's the name of this station?" she said, eyebrows furrowing a little. "And how long have you been here yourself? I thought you said that you were part of the crew."

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-10 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ezri pulled a wry face. "Trust me, it's not. Replicators are a huge improvement. Of course, there are plenty of people nowadays who feel the same way you do about home cooking." Having experienced both, Ezri was pretty sure the cooked vs. replicated thing was all in the mind and it had a lot more to do with enjoying the activity and anticipation of cooking itself, but she knew better than to try and argue the point--Ben.

She chuckled a little awkwardly at his question, though. "I'm kind of obvious, huh? I guess the short answer is that I don't know how I got here, so I'm pretty sure I've either been taken to a different part of the galaxy or a different part of the timeline, and in either case it's going to be a real pain in the neck trying to get back, which I will probably have to violate Federation law to accomplish."

Although... that answer hadn't exactly been short. Oh well.

To the first question, Gryf only shrugged. "It's 'The Station'. Seriously, I don't even think they had time to give it a name before they were offed." A pause, then she clarified. "The race that created this place. From the logs, they built this place, were ready to start something up here, then got completely destroyed by another race who ignored the Station all together."

"And I am part of the crew. You can say I own the place. Finders Keepers."

By ship. ...Well. Escape pod, really.

[There's clearly a story here, one Gryf has no intention of telling. Not sober, at least.]

"You mean the future? Or the past?" Either prospect was weird, all right, but at the mention of the Federation, his face cleared.

"Oh, so you are from the Federation. Gotcha. Well, you know what they say -- you can't make an omelet without breaking a couple eggs. Besides, if they never find out what you did to get back, then you can't get into hot water with the higher-ups. Right?" Yep. It was all about creative interpretation of the law.

It was strange, waking up in Dinah. She hadn't remembered going to sleep. But even more strange was being docked in some unfamiliar hangar. Shion was absolutely certain that she had been on the Durandal just before. Sure, she had been having problems staying conscious lately, but this was ridiculous.

So as she wandered away from her vessel, she looked like she might be in a bit of a haze. She was trying to make sense of what had happened, and where she was. So she gave a little wave to the first person she saw, trying to get their attention.

"Hello? Excuse me..."

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-11 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
...Oh.

"So you basically just found it like this?" Ezri said, looking around a little. Stranger things had happened, and it actually kind of reminded her of the Iconian Gateways. What a load of trouble that had been. "You're not in contact with any government or other organization, huh?"

That would be pretty tricky to navigate around. In fact, it might even be Gryf's fault that Ezri had been sucked into this part of the Galaxy. Intact ancient technology had a tendency to produce very unexpected results.

[personal profile] its_me_curzon 2013-01-12 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not really sure yet." Ezri eyed the pistols. "Probably the future? And I don't think I'm going to get out of this without a visit by Temporal Affairs. They're very good at finding out if someone's traveled in time."

She frowned. "Of course, I have to find out how to get back first, and I expect you want to get back where you came from too, right?"
sayonara_baby: (Jr.: angst)

[personal profile] sayonara_baby 2013-01-12 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
These were antiques, Ezri. Beautiful antiques, and you'll pry them from his cold dead fingers.

"Well, if they're that great at figuring out time travel stuff, maybe they can help you back to your time. Even if you do end up getting in trouble for it."

He opened his palms in a gesture of surrender. "We don't have anything like that that I know of... emphasis on that last bit. So I think I might be on my own. But if there's a way to get here, there's gotta be a way to get back, right? Although I admit it'd be a lot easier getting back with some Observational Realians to do the analysis."

He missed his bridge crew.

At least Shion wasn't alone in her explorations of the Station; KOS-MOS moved with her, on full alert for any threats to her creator. The greatest threat was, so far as she could detect, the abysmal state of repairs for this facility.

But other than what her sensors could find -- and that was far less than she was accustomed to -- KOS-MOS could not answer the most pressing questions that both of them possessed.

[It's somewhat of a toss-up whether KOS-MOS' social programming will pick up on subtleties like that -- or whether it will motivate her to care. But in this instance, it seems to catch.]

And you have been here since.
supplies_bitch: (sad look down)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-12 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have. QT and I - he's the mechanic and well, other than you and I, the only other person on the whole Station - have been here. Just us.

[Her lips draw tight because it was partly a lie - there was a time were there were others as well.]

"Trust me when I say... there's no one else out there. Not anyone in the Station's range, at least. I am the government out here." Gryf's tone was a touch more serious, her gaze something difficult to read.
uzuki: (I have continued searching for you)

[personal profile] uzuki 2013-01-12 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"KOS-MOS... Is there really no UMN access here?"

Of course, she already knew that nothing had changed since the last time she'd asked. But really there was nothing new to add. The station still seemed strangely empty, and she still had zero answers.

But she noticed that the infirmary was up ahead. Surely, if there were a crew, someone would be working there. She picked the pace up a little, and hurried to the doors, which didn't open. She futilely tried prying them open for a moment, before she peered through the glass. It seemed like it was totally closed.

"How..? It seems like this station is completely abandoned."
anti_gnosis: (Talking / Gentle)

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-13 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is correct. As far as my sensors are able to detect, it appears that the UMN does not exist in this place." KOS-MOS' tone rarely changed far from her smooth, unruffled, programmed inflections, but Shion of all people would be likely to recognize the note of puzzlement. So far as anyone new, the UMN extended everywhere. But here? No. There was nothing.

She followed Shion to the infirmary, then looked away from it. "My sensors are not entirely reliable; there does appear to be some level of interference. I believe there may be a small number of individuals on the station, but that is not a certainty."

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-13 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[The lie slips by KOS-MOS either unnoticed or unremarked; she gives no reaction to it, either way.]

And yet you have managed to survive.

[She considers the matter.]

Your resources appear to be thin.
uzuki: (by the darkest water)

[personal profile] uzuki 2013-01-13 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Interference?"

She turned to face KOS-MOS again, and tapped the side of her own mouth thoughtfully. Could something be interfering with UMN access too? Was that even possible?

"I wonder what could be causing that... Well, maybe whoever else is here will have some answers. Can you tell their location?"

Though she had awakened within her typical chambers aboard the Queen Emeraldas, there was still something wrong. Something distinctly off.

And she had her answer when a view through the 'eyes' of the cockpit told her she was in a hangar. She couldn't recall docking somewhere and if she had been forcibly boarded, the Queen Emeraldas would have awakened her immediately.

Despite her misgivings though, the pirate still manages to cut quite an image as she comes down the gangplank of her ship. She moves with grace even though one can clearly feel the faint undercurrent of anger that seems to somewhat cool the expression on her scarred face.

Who would be the first person she questioned, hm?
supplies_bitch: (neutral unsure)

[personal profile] supplies_bitch 2013-01-14 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[How did this robot even know? Not that it wasn't true.]

It's strange. Most things, we have more of than we know what to do with. This place is huge, meant to support thousands of people for a long time. But some basic things? I imagine they took them all. In the end it depends on what 'kind' of resources you're talking about.

There was a pause before KOS-MOS replied. "...One appears to be approximately eight meters above us," she replied. "Extrapolation suggests three levels separate us." But she couldn't be certain, and it nagged at her. KOS-MOS was not accustomed to unreliability. "The sensor interference appears to relate to the Station itself. I am unable to determine whether it is a result of an energy field, the materials used in construction, or a separate cause."

But there was someone to talk to, or at least some kind of life form to meet. "I believe the individual may be humanoid." Which was not always a given, after all. Someone they could ask about this place?
