[Event #10 - Lines in the Sand]

• Time of Event: February 7th - February 28th
• IC Event Log: Dream Threads | Nightmare Threads
• Affecting: All characters on the Station and beyond!
• Is There an Opt-Out?: Yes, but it will have to be dealt with very differently than most of our events. Otherwise, this is in effect for all players.

Premise:
Strange sand seems to have come across the Station during a massive energy shift. Every player's comm has been triggered to let them know, yet it is too large, far too wide spread to be a new person. No, instead, seemingly scattered about, are piles of sand. One type of sand is beautiful and golden. The other is black, so dark it seems to draw in the light.

A mere touch of either sand will draw the one who touches it into an immediate sleep, and the dreams will take hold...


OOC Information:
If you chose 1 for your character, they will stumble across the golden sand. If you chose 2 for your character, they will find the black sand. You may choose how this happens and where they discover it, but for all characters active in the event, they will find it as their first action for the event. (Of course, you may play up to finding it!) You may not change your number at this time or find the opposite color of sand. You may also find two different piles of sand near each other, should you be with another character who found the opposite color. No matter which color, your character will be drawn to touch it, and must do so to start the event for them.

As soon as your character touches the sand, they will fall asleep wherever they are standing. They will not know they have fallen asleep. All they will know is that they wake up exactly where they have fallen, as if they have been knocked out (with no side effects). The sand will be gone and in fact, it having even been there will only be a vague memory soon forgotten.

Strange how things will seem the same - except that anything that can happen in a dream? Can happen now.

Team Golden Sand: You have been affected by Sandy's dream sand! After you wake up, it might seem normal at first, until you discover you can fly. Or change into an animal. Or suddenly be wearing awesome armor. Everything that happens is awesome. You can fall from incredible distances and just float to the ground, fly around the hangar, no wounds will hurt you. Every happy dream you've ever had all combined! Nothing to make you unhappy, even if they probably should make you unhappy...

Your character might realize that their happiest thing would to be home? ...And look at that - they're home. They'll be able to go home. See their family, their homes, anything!

Or they might be happy being in the clouds, or going to the beach, or anything that makes them happy!

Team Black Sand: You have been affected by Pitch Black's nightmare sand! After you wake up, it might seem normal at first, until you discover that something is wrong. Something feels wrong. Something's off. In fact, the longer it goes on, the worse it gets. You know how in a nightmare, you sometimes know the worst thing would be to get to that door to get away from the bad guy would be the door being locked, and when you get to the door, it is?

That's exactly the kind of nightmare your character is having. Or maybe they'll be taking a test and their pants will be missing.

And quickly enough, they'll realize it isn't limited to the Station. They might find themselves home, in a dungeon, in a city, wherever. It is whatever makes your character anxious, scared, creeped out, etc. Nightmare fuel!

One important note! Your character may even 'wake up' if they realize they are dreaming... however, like a cartoon, no matter how many times they 'wake up', they will still be asleep. Characters will not actually wake up until the event is OVER! At the close of the event, there will be another massive energy shift and suddenly, Pitch, Sandy, and all of the gold and black sand will be gone...


Player Interactions:
Players will be able to interact within the same dream type. So all players currently being effected by the golden sand can move within any other dream, and all people being effected by the black sand can move within any other nightmare. Someone effected by nightmares not only cannot go into a dream, but they can't even see people who are dreaming. This is of course true in reverse!

But that's not all! You may invite outside players to join your threads! For this event, players from outside of the Station may join in. Please send them to this OOC information page so that they can get quickly up to speed, in particular on the rules.


NPCs:
We have two NPCs for this event! Our lovely Pitch Black, blackaspitch, Rico, who will be joining us to help out for the length of the event! We will also have Sandy, sweetestdreams which Jantra will be playing for the event!

Basic NPC Info: If you haven't seen Rise of the Guardians, these two characters are from it. We will do our best to completely avoid spoilers that aren't clear from the trailer. I would also suggest watching Meet Sandy! (There's none for Pitch, sadface.)

Please note that as the rulers of dreams and nightmares, they can chose to be seen or not be seen in their respective domains. However, they can go into the other domain but they cannot affect the surroundings any longer - only the players! Pitch and Sandy will attempt to bring over characters to their respective sides, either by destroying a dream and turning it into a nightmare, or managing to make a character happy and destroy the nightmare turning it into a dream.

Please note! The NPCs will only be stepping in very occasionally, so do not rely on them! Feel free to make things up, or as the mod if you're uncertain about something. This is mostly all about the players coming up with their wildest and most terrible dreams!


But What If I Want to Switch Sides?:

There are several things that will change a player's dream into a nightmare or visa versa!

• Sandy or Pitch may interfere with the dream/nightmare and change it to the opposite. You may fight them on this, by the way! The NPCs will work with players to make this awesome, but part of the fun is the unknown!
• An outside character could change a nightmare into a dream or visa versa. You as players are free to make that happen how you want! There is a rule for outside players doing so below! They must indicate they wish to change the dream/nightmare and you may refuse it. Please contact the player and let them know. You can also label a thread 'closed' to have no other players enter into it.
• Leave a comment in the correct place in the mod-titled comments below! Let us know you want to have your dream/nightmare changed and oh I think we could wrangle something to happen! It will not happen immediately, however! We will tag in the midst of one of your dreams/nightmares after you have indicated you'd like a switch~

Updating Information:

There will be, during the course of this event, new information being released, possible mini-events within the event, updated rules if necessary, etc! We would like if all players would keep an eye on the mod plurk, stationmods for immediate updates as well as this OOC post!


RULES:

• Most important rule for this event: Sandy and Pitch's posts over rule any current player actions. Sandy and Pitch will be posting occasionally in both the nightmare and dream threads. If they suddenly post into your thread, you must react to that change in the dream! Sandy/Pitch replies trump all other actions.
• Sandy and Pitch's responses all trump over any action your character may take. While neither NPC will fully god-mod, they are the controllers of the dreams. You may suddenly find your character in a strange situation, a changed setting, clothing, wounded, floating, anything. If you have any issue with an action either NPC took, please respond in a comment below and we will work with you.
• Please take note when you go to reply or after you have replied that Sandy or Pitch posts might have jumped your reply and you will need to edit your reply or change what you were going to do. If you are suddenly tagged by Sandy or Pitch, please don't hesitate to inform the other person you are tagging with! That way they don't miss the reply because the tag wasn't to them!
• Any sexual encounters must be marked in the subject of the first post where it gets more than PG-13. Use common sense!
• Any particularly graphic/violent threads must be marked in the subject of the first post where it starts to get violent! Also please use common sense.

For Outside Players:

• Please read this entire above post, including all rules, as it provides all information about the event!
• We request that you keep all of your posting to the event thread as this will be where your character is viable.
• Your character will consider this a dream and really, they are one - this is 100% not real to them.
• Since your character is a dream, they may go between the two different logs (nightmare or dream) without having to be 'changed' as the Station's Players will have to be.
• Sandy and Pitch's responses all trump over any action your character may take. While neither NPC will fully god-mod, they are the controllers of the dreams. You may suddenly find your character in a strange situation, a changed setting, clothing, wounded, floating, anything. If you have any issue with an action either NPC took, please respond in a comment below and we will work with you.
• Feel free to tag around! Outside players may switch a dream or a nightmare or visa versa, but if you are going to try and change the dream/nightmare, please indicate in your tag's title that you would like to do so! A player might not wish to do so, so also don't hesitate to ask!
• Please do not tag to any thread labeled 'closed' unless it is closed to you!
• We ask that you behave as is appropriate. Anything that is clearly trolling or obscene beyond words will result in you being removed from the event.
