Welcome to the Station's Test Drive

Here, you will have the chance to try your character's voice out before apping them into the game. Feel free to play out in whatever means you would like - through the Station's communicators which are video and voice or either one alone, through action tags or prose, or whatever else you wish.

Please note that testing a character here does not guarantee that you have a reservation on that character. You may reserve a character HERE. Also note that this may be used as one of your samples for your application, though the mods may ask for more if what is provided is not considered sufficient. Finally, any thing played out on the test drive will not be considered character canon until after your character has woken up on the Station, as each character is given a unique scenario for their character's waking upon acceptance to the game.

Reflexes kick in as soon as Book catches the motion coming at him. He swiftly moves back into the edge of the Serenity for cover, and holds up a hand. No weapons, no backup, best bet is to surrender and maybe make them feel guilty for shooting at a preacher. Then figure out what happened to Mal. "Hello? My name..."

He starts to look around to try to figure out what direction it came from, and sees a toy dart sticking out of the hull of the ship. What?

Let's try this again. "Hello?" Except that Book isn't moving out of cover.

CAT. CAT. CAT.

Veena appears and jumps up trying to bat at the dart. It's a bit high for her though so she's doing that horrible scrambling thing.

"Oi! Leave it alone you [something very horrible sounding in Gaelic]. I dinnae need you stealing the damn thing again and dropping it in the loo!" Kale comes walking over with the Nerf gun in his hands and looking Very Irked at the cat.

Said cat pauses in her mad scrambling and sits on the edge of Serenity. She starts grooming herself industriously like she totally wasn't doing what she was doing a second ago.

Totally.

Book stares at the cat for a moment. How did it get there so suddenly? Toy guns, pets, is this a colony ship? It all screams 'civilians' not 'soldiers' so Book cautiously steps out from the Serenity. His brow is still furrowed in confusion as he looks at the young man approaching. The gun is only a toy, he relaxes the smallest amount.

"Hello? My name is Shepherd Book. Can you tell me what's happened to the rest of my crew?"

The way Kale walks isn't that of a civilian, despite the toy gun. When he spots Book he gives the man a practice look over of a fighter assessing a threat. He also starts to move the gun a little but stops himself.

"Ah. I dinnae..." he pauses and checks something. "Oh. Well. Never mind. Anyway. I believe you be in for a bit of a shock and surprise."

Meanwhile Veena sniffs at Book's shoes, having abandoned pretending to be innocent.

"What kind of a shock and a surprise?" Book's tone is flat, cautious. His eyes don't waver from Kale, despite the cat now toying at his feet. "Is the rest of the crew all right? Are we prisoners here? This doesn't look like an Alliance ship, so where are we?"

"And, might I ask, who are you?" Noting the man didn't give a name, rank, anything. Another sign this place might not be military, though.

"Well you appear to have been transported into another reality all together and are now stuck on this station with the rest of us though I dinnae know for how long. We be in a sort of dead space and there nae be any way to communicate out. As for your crew, I dinnae know. It dinnae look like they came with you."

And Kale doesn't know that he and Inara know each other.

"As for me, I be Kale Daly and the cat be Veena, though she belongs to me brother." Pause. "Or me brother belongs to her."

Book holds out a hand as he tries to keep up with all of the information that he is being given. "Hold on, slow down there a minute! Transported? Into another reality? What does that even mean? And-" Book looks back at the Serenity in confusion, then back at Kale. "If the rest of the people on that ship weren't brought here, then where are they?" No. The alternative is too bad to consider. There is something strange happening here.

"I dinnae know what happened to the others, but that ship be here for months. For as long as I be here," Kale says, addressing the ship question first. "And as for another reality, I be meaning another world where the place be the same but the histories be different."

Now Veena is rubbing up against Book's legs. Scratchies?

"Now that's just impossible. I was just on that ship, how could it have been here for months? How did it get here without anyone to fly her?" Book is getting increasingly confused and agitated, but there is a cat rubbing up against his legs. He rolls his eyes a little, but stoops to pet the cat.

"Please, just explain what is going on here?"

"Maybe it be a copy of your ship. And I be trying to explain it. I nae have a whiteboard to draw anything though nor be I ritual mage to get into the deep physics of the multiverse."
