Jack recognizes the aggressive look in her glare, but he doesn't flinch or shift back, just because she's within arm's reach now. Calm. Don't treat her like a threat. Even if she is considering ripping out your jugular.

"The rest of us have been trying to find a way home. And working on keeping this place from falling out of the sky before we find it.
